This is how thermal insulation works:
- The curtain fabrics store heat. The rule of thumb here is: the thicker the fabric and the more fabric there is, the greater the effect.
- Curtains act as thermal insulation. With older, not 100% tight windows, the curtains keep out the cold when drawn. This also works the other way round: the curtains act as a barrier to prevent the warm air from escaping from the room.
